Curriculum & Instruction
SD44 and Cheakamus Centre (CC) provide leadership in supporting innovation and excellence in teaching and learning around place-based environmental learning. The Outdoor School curriculum is designed to align with and enhance experiential teaching and learning opportunities. Field studies are facilitated by visiting teachers during a 2 hour instructional period to a rotating group of students. Field Study groups are typically between 12-16 students and consist of students from all attending schools. The same study will be taught 4-5 times during the visit depending upon the length of the program. There are a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces and equipment available for use.
At Cheakamus Centre, the learning process uses the environment as a starting point to teach concepts in subjects across the curriculum. Programs are aligned with the curriculum in a variety of ways.
